Industrial fluorene
Industrial fluorene, chemically known as 9H-fluorene, belongs to the class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It is primarily obtained through distillation, separation, and purification of coal tar and serves as an important basic organic synthesis intermediate. At room temperature, it appears as white to pale yellow flaky crystals that sublimate easily when heated and exhibit fluorescent properties. It is insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents such as benzene, ethanol, and diethyl ether. The 9-methylene group is highly chemically reactive, readily undergoing substitution and oxidation reactions, and is used to synthesize various fluorene derivatives.
